The Early Year’s team at Park Lane Primary and Nursery School were keen to transform their outdoor space as it was tired and needed permanent structure features for learning and play that would create an engaging, non-prescriptive environment.

Outdoor Play UK were chosen as our design went beyond the vision the Staff had considered for the space. Crucially we had also been able to achieve this on budget.

Central to the design was the inclusion of a road way with our Timber Roadway Set, parking bays and zebra crossings to promote communication, awareness of others and a freedom to ride bikes safely. Within the road network, by choosing an earth blend wetpour colour this added a new dimension to the imaginative play that could allow the area to become a beach, desert, or construction area.

The central island also houses a the Play Mound and our Low Level Pole Climber structure to promote physical development and team work. The remaining surfacing consists of artificial grass to provide a comfortable, garden likeenvironment for the children to explore and learn whilst utilising the play features included. These include a Performance Stage to develop speaking and listening skills and create performances.

A Mud Kitchen Midi, messy play area with surround sleeper edge and bark for the children to cooperate, improve dexterity and develop social skills through sharing and playing together. We also included our Bug Pods for the children to develop their understanding of the world around them through creating habitats for minibeasts.

The Storytime Set provides a special place for the staff and children to teach and learn in a more traditional arrangement but in an outdoor setting to promote engagement and imaginations.
